March has now come but before we create more wonderful things for this month, let us take a look at the activities and the artworks I created last February.
Online work for a year. I am thankful to all my clients for their trust. Every project is unique and I’ve learned a lot. From convincing clients, fees, pricing, to contracts.
All work and no play is bad. When I’m having some art blocks, what I do is listen to audiobooks. I happen to stumble upon an audiobook about Spice and wolf. I eventually watched the anime. I learned a lot about business and merchants because of the story. If you are fond of light novels, adventure and business, Spice and Wolf is a good one.
Spice and Wolf Synopsis:
Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. Yet as years go by and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who stylizes herself as the “Wise Wolf of Yoitsu,” has been reduced to a mere folk tale. When a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops at Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he eventually takes her to her northern home of Yoitsu. The savvy trader recognizes Holo’s unusual ability to evaluate a person’s character and accepts her proposition. Now in the possession of both sharp business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence inches closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly morphing into something unexpected.
Last month, Jollibee released these series of valentine’s clips in celebration of all kinds of love. The relatable stories became viral. #Bidaangsawi, memes, and fanarts about the clips roamed the internet. I created one myself, A whole Ampalaya is added to Jollibee’s Yum burger, that’s how bitter my lovelife is hahaha. You can check the layers here.
“Journey to the Crown” is a personal project about the past and recent Miss Universe delegates from the Philippines. These fanarts are for these beautiful women. From Venus Raj, Gloria Diaz, Maxine Medina to Pia Wurtzbach, they’re all beautiful with a heart.
In celebration of National Arts Month, I’ve shared my knowledge about digital painting and graphic design to almost a hundred students. This was my first talk ever. It lasted for more than 3 hours. I’ve discussed the projects I’ve created for the province, for companies and other clients. I’ve pointed out the things I learned, gave some tips, tricks and demos. I do hope that I was able to inspire these students to create, to never give up on their talent and that they can do it with arts. You can check what I’ve talked about during the seminar here.
A client contacted me for work. They said that they saw my portfolio. They loved the colors from the Woman Create illustrations and the intricate details from the Adult Coloring Books I created. I am now a freelance artist for this US based embroidery company. My first project with them was this Summer Themed Botanicals. A total of 20 unique full color illustrations were created.
Now that I was able to save money from my freelancing projects from over a year of hard work, I wanted to improve my room and upgrade equipments to be more productive. This draft is posted on my wall to remind me to be smart about the projects I choose and work hard to finish them on time.
And with all the work at hand, I just realized that this is true. “The longer I stay at home, the more homeless I look.”
I’ve participated in Art Association of the Philippines’ On the Spot Painting Competition. On the spot painting is much harder because of the time constraint and pressure. I did not win but I’ll try again next time.
I was able to watch this wolverine movie last week. LOGAN is heartbreaking. We all kinda knew what’s coming but it’s just sad. I got teary eyed during Logan and Charles’ scenes. I remembered my parents and grandparents. Taking care of our elders would be tough but we must be responsible and patient with them. Laura and Logan’s last scene was tragic. This movie has a lot of blood but that’s not the most painful part.
So there you go Artlings, that’s what I did for the month of February. Thank you for reading.
